Monopoly Big Event: The greatest thing to happen to slots in 2015?
WMS Williams Interactive together with Barcrest look like forming a formidable partnership (with WMS already having a new slot developing sub-brand Scientific Gaming which also includes Bally Gaming), phew!
WMS and Barcrest have just released their Monopoly Big Event online slot and what a cracker it is. This could very well be the game changer that WMS were aiming for when they released Ooh Aah Dracula in the past.
Having secured the exclusive rights to the Monopoly name for online slots, Barcrest and WMS have really gone for it with the animations, the layout and the gameplay bringing a real Monopoly board game feel to this slot. But what’s more, this is a hugely innovative slot with exceptional bonus rounds and the ultimate challenge in the 99% RTP High Roller game.
What type of slot is it?
Monopoly Big Event is powered by Barcrest (part of Scientific Games – Owned by WMS) and has 5 reels and 20 paylines. Spins start from as low as 20p all the way up to £500 a spin. The game-play is very much based on one of the most iconic board games in the world (although it doesn’t have an “around the board” feature which would have been the icing on the cake).

Bonus Rounds (conventional play)
During normal play there is the Big Event feature which you can trigger by getting the Big Event symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5 – if you land 2 stacked symbols on reel 5 you will enter the Big Event game with the (green) House sneak preview. If you trigger the feature with 3 stacked symbols on reel 5 you will be awarded the Big Event game with the (red) Hotel sneak preview. The House sneak preview reveals the chance card positions of the 3 houses whilst the Hotel sneak preview reveals the chance card positions of the 3 hotels.
During the Big Event you alternatively choose between the community chest and the chance cards. The community chest cards will reveal the number of free spins and/or guaranteed wins while the chance cards reveal the bonus icons. Once you land 3 of the same bonus icon you will activate the corresponding bonus with the number of free spins and guaranteed wins collected up until that point.

Our House bonus hint: Start by picking 2 of the guaranteed bonus symbols. Obviously you will want to collect the guaranteed bonus eventually but to get more community chest cards you need to select the other cards till you get 2 dice symbols (if you have 2 hotel symbols then you want to try and get all 3, whether you want to gamble if you have 2 dice symbols and 2 hotels is up to you, it can prove very rewarding to get 3 hotels but is it worth losing your guaranteed house bonus?).
If however you have many more Guaranteed Wins Spins than you have free spins, you may want to consider grabbing the 3rd house or hotel symbol straight away and not take any more free spins. This way you will likely get a nice surprise after the free spins are through when you have guaranteed wins left over. Try it out yourself during practice play and make your own mind up if it is worth it or not. It’s a gamble.
Bonus Rounds (conventional play) Part 2
If you reveal the Dancing Wilds free spins feature (House), a full reel is chosen at random for every free spin and turns fully wild.
If you reveal the Locking Wilds free spins feature (Hotel), any wild that lands on the reels will lock into place for the duration of the free spins.
If you land the ‘In Jail’ symbol on any of the reels during free spins, the lowest paying symbol on the reels will be removed from all future free spins in the feature. You can remove the 10, J, Q, K and A leaving only the high paying symbols on the board.
Guaranteed Wins will tell you the minimum number of wins available during the free spins – when you have a winning spin, the Guaranteed Wins meter decreases by 1. If however you have any guaranteed wins remaining, this will play out on a separate reel set and can deliver some big wins.
The Game Changer
There is a Big Bet high roller feature in Monopoly Big Event which you can play by clicking the large ‘Play Big Bet’ button to the right hand side of the reels. You will have a choice between 2 games – for either £20 or £30 (or equivelent in your currency).
In the £20 game, a win multiplier is applied to wins on each spin, for 5 spins in total. The multiplier starts at 1x and goes up by 1 to 5x (5 Big Bet spins).
At the start of the £30 game, a wheel spins to reveal a random feature, either the Multiplier game (5 free spins), the Epic Wins feature (5 free spins, all with a 5x multiplier) or the top game which is the Locking Wild Big Event feature (5 free spins) (most chance of landing the additional normal bonus round which can pay big money at this bet level).
During test/practice play we played a few Big Bet rounds with varying results, often the return on your 30.00 bet is minimal (0.00 to 6.00), however there were some large wins of 100-200 but the largest win we had in our short testing was a whopping 1,211.50! During real money play we have obviously not been experimenting too much with the Big Bet feature just yet as that would be foolish before knowing the slot inside out. We have landed some good bonus wins during conventional play, regularly upwards of 100x our stake.
Guaranteed Wins & Big Bet Additional Info
When playing Big Bet and you land the bonus feature whilst playing with a multiplier… all wins during the bonus round are multiplied by the multiplier! We have captured a screenshot of the Guaranteed Wins extra spin from the bonus round and you will notice that in this instance there is also a x3 multiplier attached to all the bonus round wins!
Our Verdict
We absolutely love this slot. If you have a large enough budget and balls of steel then the Big Bet high rolling feature is the one for you. This is definitely a game changing slot due to the innovative features and of course due to the massively high profile Monopoly license. We also think there;s money to be made from this slot if you can get it right and it’s certainly going to be our slot of choice for the next couple of months.
