We have talked a lot about the random number generator amongst other things on this website. Hopefully by now you should have a pretty good idea of how online slots and online casinos really work.
But for the advanced player there is one more thing to take into account. And that is the bonus/feature hit frequency.
While the random number generator will govern the normal payouts, the feature bonuses are often governed separately with the combination of the two adding up to the overall RTP. We published a link to a pdf from Playtech in our “Time on Device” article which explains the casinos angle on bonus hit frequency. This in itself doesn’t make any difference to the gameplay or the chances of winning or losing from a casual players point of view. However for the advanced slot player knowing the average hit frequency of the bonus rounds can help mould their strategy.
Do remember that a bonus hit frequency of 100 doesn’t mean the bonus round will fall every 100 spins. Things really do vary from slot to slot. And even a slot with a bonus hit frequency as low as 50 or 75 can sometimes go through 1,000 spins without throwing up a bonus win. And conversely a slot with a bonus hit frequency of 400 can on rare occasions give the bonus feature two times in the space of a couple of spins.
