One of the most hotly anticipated slots of the year and a finalist in the “Game to Watch 2015” competition at ICE Totally Gaming 2015, Machine-Gun Unicorn promises a hell of a lot. Here’s how Genesis introduced it themselves:
Machine Gun Unicorn™ is a unique video slot game, comprised of 5 reels and 10 paylines with Two-way pay. The game features Stacked Symbol Substitution and an innovative game mechanic called Symbol Bombs.
“The gaming market is seeking unique new themes and fast, entertaining features that keep gamers engaged in new ways,” said James Watson, Director of European Sales, “and we wanted to design something unforgettable to attract and retain players.”
The competition was designed to showcase the ‘Next Big Thing’ that Operators and platforms are always seeking.
The highly energetic play of this game is further enhanced by the “fantasy meets humor” storyline, a story that makes the game extremely memorable and addictively fun. The Zombies have invaded Ponyland, and only the Machine Gun Unicorn can fend off the invaders. When the “Machine Gun Unicorn” symbol appears, Zombies will get “Blown Away”. It is an entertaining and fast-paced adventure that is hard to resist.
Machine Gun Unicorn™ is available in Flash for desktop computer users this March on the Quickfire Network, with a mobile (HTML5) version available later in the Spring of 2015.
Well after that cracking video and introduction we were expecting something unique, special and memorable. Alas we were to be very disappointed. The reel spins seem a little clunky and the gameplay offered us very little involvement and excitement. What looks like it should be a big win turns out to be a small win and while the small wins are very regular, there’s no sense of build up in the play. The eponymous gun-toting unicorn feature was a huge disappointment as well. I am sure there will be some big wins from this feature but we didn’t hang around long enough to find out as our boredom levels were excruciating!
Perhaps we just didn’t get it. But it just seems that Genesis Gaming completely missed the mark here. We have no idea who they are aiming this slot at? It’s half cute and cuddly unicorns and half zombies heads in a jar. For us it just doesn’t work in the slightest.
You will probably want to make your own mind up but we would advise practice play rather than testing it with your own money at first. Check the game out in demo mode here:
