Fruit Zen is one of the most graphically stunning fruit machines you come across. This BetSoft Gaming developed slot is hardly a classic slot machine (quite simply because if you know it, this is just a Starburst clone but that is not necessarily a bad thing of course), and is not a true fruit machine, on the basis that it does contain features, a few of them as there may be. Fruit Zen is certainly a visually stunning slot, although that is hardly enough on its own to sing this slot’s praise.
You don’t get much bounce for your buck when it comes to wagering on the Fruit Zen slot. As a matter of fact, there are only 10 paylines for you to bet on. You can alter them as you see fit, although why you would want to play with less than 10 lines is absurd. Players can choose coin denominations which range from 2p up to £1, and they can bet as many as 10 of those per line. What you are left with is a wagering range which stems upwards from 2p per line, per spin, up to £100 per spin.
The symbols in this slot are fruit icons as we’ve explained. Cherries, raspberries, plums, watermelons, grapes, lemons and oranges all appear on the reels of this slot, and the prizes paid out with these symbols vary greatly. Cash prizes range from 50 coins up to a non-progressive jackpot of 2,500 coins in all. In order to win that prize, players need to bag 5 oranges on a payline.
What special features? Fruit Zen might as well not have any at all. There is a single special symbol, and that icon acts as a wild symbol. It appears as the Fruit Zen logo, and it can expand to occupy the entire second, third, or fourth reels. Wilds do not appear on the first or fifth reels, and can replace all other icons in the slot.
Whenever a wild symbol appears on the reels and expands, it will trigger a free re-spin. As long as you keep bagging wilds on the reels during these re-spins, you will keep pocketing more re-spins. There is a limit to how many re-spins you can have, though. Once all three central reels have wilds on them, the re-spins feature ends.
To be perfectly honest, Fruit Zen is a far cry from being a great slot. We certainly won’t play down its graphical hand. Yes, Fruit Zen has top notch fruit machine graphics, designed in wonderful 3D. We will admit as much. However, as far as gameplay goes – this slot is pretty much a waste of time. The prizes are petite, the wagers are costly, and you get virtually no decent features in exchange. In the grand scheme of things, we’d give this slot a miss unless you happen to be die-hard fruit machine lover. We like fruit machines as much as the next guy, but this one just doesn’t measure up.
Fruit Zen is a Starburst clone just with a lower return to player attached. So if you are a USA casino player who wants play the love it or hate it Starburst then this is probably as good as it is going to get. For everyone else there’s far more interesting slots out there that will also pay a lot better!
